This coffee comes from: This washed-process Bourbon lot comes from the Coproca (Coopérative des Producteurs de Café) washing station in Rwanda’s Nyamasheke district, located in the country’s western highlands near Lake Kivu.Around 1,000 smallholder farmers contribute cherries to the Coproca washing station, with quality improvements driven by a strong cooperative structure. Coffee cherries are grown on steep hillsides at elevations of 1,700–1,900 meters, where cool temperatures and rich soils support slow, even maturation.
After harvest, cherries are carefully pulped, fermented, washed, and sun-dried on traditional African raised beds. The coffee is then transported to a dry mill where it undergoes gravity sorting and multiple rounds of hand selection to ensure exceptional consistency and a clean, transparent cup.
Rwanda’s coffee industry has grown and strengthened despite the deep historical challenges following the 1994 genocide. Today, more than 400,000 smallholder farmers contribute to coffee production, with an increasing number of high-quality lots exported through a nationwide network of washing stations. The Nyamasheke region, where this coffee is produced, is one of the country’s key coffee-growing areas. Set among Rwanda’s iconic rolling hills—earning it the name “Land of a Thousand Hills”—this coffee represents both regional pride and the resilience of its farming communities.
