Ethiopia has a long and rich coffee tradition and heritage. This country produces some of the most extraordinary coffee in the world. In fact, it was the birthplace of all Arabica coffee. These beans consistently are among the highest rated beans in the world.
Most coffees are grown in smallholder farms or sustenance farmers by local families. Many with less than 1 hectare per family. They often pool their coffees together at the local milling station before export.
Over 12 million people in Ethiopia are involved in the coffee value chain, it remains a central part of Ethiopian culture. Growing, processing, and drinking coffee is part of the everyday way of life. They see coffee as a social and familial catalyst. It’s common to have hour long ceremonies that celebrate coffee, but more importantly friends and family. Ethiopians believe coffee is about relationships. We completely agree.
Yirgacheffe a large coffee growing region inside of the Sidama region, located in the southern part of Ethiopia. It’s famous for its unique and diverse coffees. These coffees are very clean and complex, with pleasant acidity and floral notes.
