The region’s high elevations, volcanic soils, abundant rainfall, and equatorial climate create exceptional conditions for specialty Arabica coffee.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003eFounded in 2011, Virunga works directly with smallholder farmers, providing agricultural training, coffee seedlings, processing infrastructure, and support throughout the harvest cycle. Seven washing stations across Kivu allow farmers access to improved processing and quality control, helping produce coffees that can command higher premiums. This natural processed coffee in particular comes out of the Kahondo washing station. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003eVirunga’s coffees are primarily Bourbon and Blue Mountain varieties, grown at elevations of roughly 1,500–1,900 meters.
